CVE-2026-100833

CRITICALPre-NVD 9.69.6
EchelonGraph scoreMEDIUM confidence

“—” beside the score: it is equal to the CVSS score beside it.

This critical-severity CVE scores 9.6 under a secondary CVSS source (NVD's own analysis pending). EPSS exploit probability: 0.2% (14th percentile of EPSS-scored CVEs). GitHub Security Advisory CVSS 8.2 is lower than this score; a lower GitHub score revises it only when its advisory is newer than the CVE record's last change, and this advisory (published 2026-09-27) is not newer than that change (2026-10-09), so it does not.

The CVE record's CNA (VulnCheck) lists edgelesssys contrast versions 1.14.0 up to but not including 1.23.1 as affected, and edgelesssys contrast versions 1.23.1 as unaffected. No release containing a fix is confirmed on record.

Contrast (edgelesssys/contrast) versions 1.14.0 before 1.23.1 generate runtime policies that fail to detect all container image substitutions. A bad rebase during a Kata Containers update accidentally introduced an allow_storage rule that accepts storage entries using the image_guest_pull driver without verifying the image digest. An attacker with access to the Kata agent API — for example, a Kubernetes cluster administrator in Contrast's threat model — can therefore substitute a container image with an exploit payload, provided the substituted image satisfies the remaining policy rules, undermining the confidential container's integrity guarantees.

EG Risk is EchelonGraph's 0–100 priority score. It fuses impact severity (EG Severity, the CVSS base score, never the KEV-floored or EPSS-lifted EG Score) with real-world exploitation and automatability, under weights EchelonGraph set by hand, so you can rank equal-severity CVEs and fix the most dangerous first. Higher = act sooner.

Data Freshness Timeline

(refreshed 20× in last 7d / 118× in last 30d)

Each row is a time one of our pipelines fetched, updated or re-scored this CVE. For example, "NVD update" means NVD published or revised its analysis for this CVE; "MITRE cvelistV5" means we ingested or refreshed it from the CNA feed. An arrow marks a change the record states ("CVSS v3 → 9.1"); EPSS and GHSA rows show the values recorded at that time, not what changed (EPSS values are rounded; hover one for the exact figures). Most recent first.

Showing the most recent 100 of 146 refreshes on record for this CVE.

A repeat, a row identical to one the same pipeline wrote less than 10 seconds earlier, is not a separate refresh and is not counted. None are among the latest 100 rows. The 46 oldest rows on record are not shown and were not checked, so the counts can still include repeats.

Frequently asked(5)

What is CVE-2026-100833?
CVE-2026-100833 is a critical-severity vulnerability; its CVE record was published on September 27, 2026. Contrast (edgelesssys/contrast) versions 1.14.0 before 1.23.1 generate runtime policies that fail to detect all container image substitutions. A bad rebase during a Kata Containers update accidentally introduced an allow_storage rule that accepts storage entries using the image_guest_pull driver…
When was CVE-2026-100833 made public?
CVE-2026-100833 was made public on August 24, 2026: that is the date its CVE record's CNA, VulnCheck, gives for when the vulnerability was made public. The CVE record itself was published on September 27, 2026. EchelonGraph's copy of the record carries a last-modified date of October 9, 2026; the record at its source may have been updated since.
Is CVE-2026-100833 actively exploited?
CVE-2026-100833 is not currently on CISA's Known Exploited Vulnerabilities catalog. FIRST EPSS estimates a 0.2% probability of exploitation in the next 30 days (14th percentile of EPSS-scored CVEs).
What is the CVSS score of CVE-2026-100833?
CVE-2026-100833 has a CVSS base score of 9.6 (a secondary CVSS source that NVD displays; NVD's own analysis pending).
How do I remediate CVE-2026-100833?
No fix for CVE-2026-100833 is confirmed yet. Until one is published, restrict network exposure of the affected system or apply the vendor's mitigation — for example, keep it off the internet or limit it to trusted networks — and watch the vendor's advisory for the fix. The CVE record's CNA (VulnCheck) lists edgelesssys contrast versions 1.14.0 up to but not including 1.23.1 as affected, and edgelesssys contrast versions 1.23.1 as unaffected. No release containing a fix is confirmed on record. The vendor advisories EchelonGraph has for CVE-2026-100833 are linked in the Vendor Advisories panel on this page.
